The Honor System – a comprehensive reference to the Honor Committee and the Honor Code –is a concept not yet prevalent in Korea, but a familiar concept to high schools and universities abroad, as a system that seeks to uphold the honor of its society.

As future global leaders, the students of CSIA have recognized the importance of honor and integrity (the core principles of the Honor System), and to uphold them, adopted the Honor System into CSIA society. Brought to life in 2008, the Honor Committee has continuously worked to achieve its purpose of existence: to help uphold the honor and conscience of the students. Because trust and willingness of the student body is most important, the Honor Code – the guideline under which the Honor Committee seeks to guard honor – is ratified every year by the entire student body, and members of the Honor Committee are elected without campaign.

The system is still new, and has undergone many trials-and-errors during the past two years, but is settling down and adapting to new situations in order to be most effective in helping the students to uphold their honor.

In the Honor Code, ““honor”” is defined as the character and virtue of ””being true to one’s conscience, [ and following one’s] convictions as to what is right or wrong, without succumbing to temptation or pressure to do otherwise;" to uphold this, the Honor Committee deals with three primary violations of honor: lying, cheating, and stealing.

For most of the semester, the Honor Committee will function to simply promote and emphasize the values of integrity and conscience; cases of the above-mentioned offenses, should they arise, will be notified by mail, phone, or in person, to the Honor Committee. The Honor Committee will meet and hold hearings as necessary, and reach a conclusion on what actually took place, and what should be done. This conclusion will be announced to the entire student body.

For the most part, the Honor Committee will serve to mediate between the school discipline committee & the student. Should the student be found guilty of violating his or her own honor, as well as the class and the school the student belongs to, the appropriate sanction may be handed out to the guilty student.
